Henna leaves are beaten from the cut stems, dried and packed in burlap, stored in shaded, open air warehouses, sometimes for months. Only when the henna is sold is it ground into powder.

High quality henna leaves which have absorbed no moisture dry a bright green color. The berries and bark are used in folk medicine and oil production. The flowers (not pictured) are used to make perfume.
